Honey
At Smokey’s Hive, our simple honey harvesting method allows us to harvest our honey in such a way as to not harm the bees while providing an excellent tasting honey product.  We harvest our honey by removing the fully capped honey frames from the hive.  Then we use an uncapping knife to remove the cappings from the frames, and extract the honey using a spinning extractor.  Once the honey is free from the frames, it is filtered through a 600-micron coarse filter and then a 400-micron medium filter to remove wax particles from the honey.  (Please note that we do not use the 200-micron fine filter to allow more of the beneficial pollen particles to remain in the end product.) Once filtered, the honey is then allowed to “stand” for 24 hours to remove air bubbles and then it is bottled and labeled.  Every attempt is made to keep the end product as natural as possible, which is why our honey has such a great taste that we are sure you will enjoy!
